Modular Building Creates New Office, Reduces Costs for Aviation Company

Challenge

Midcoast Aviation provides business jet aircraft maintenance, modification and painting for customers throughout the world. Recently, Midcoast reached out to Traube for assistance with a construction project at its St. Louis Downtown Airport operation located in Cahokia, Ill. Midcoast occupies nine hangars totaling more than 650,000 square feet on 52 acres, and its campus spans more than half a mile from end to end. A team of engineers needed to be closer to the group of aircraft they were supporting, so the decision was made to create offices for them in one of the hangars. Known for providing clients with cost-efficient, scalable and portable alternatives to permanent buildings, Traube stepped in to help.

Solution

To create the new office space inside the hangar, Traube considered the available space and outfitted it with clear walls, doors and climate controls. After Traube created the temporary structure, Midcoast placed cubicles within the tent and installed wiring and standard office equipment. As a semi-permanent alternative to a costly build-out, the current space is easily expandable to fit Midcoast’s needs. In addition, the space is more productive because it provides a climate-controlled area within the hangar.

Results

According to Kevin Robinson, director of facilities and risk management at Midcoast, the company saved money by using a modular building by Traube and experienced minimal business interruption during installation. Traube staff installed the entire semi-permanent structure in just two days – without requiring Midcoast to relocate or move existing equipment.

“This has been a great use of our dollars,” Robinson said. “The Traube team was helpful, insightful, knowledgeable and receptive. Traube took a concept and made it work – even better than other solutions.”

Temporary Building Enables Business Continuity and Recovery after Devastating Flood

Challenge

Natural disasters can wreak havoc on businesses. In September 2008, Parties and Props Ltd., a special event design company, experienced a flood that threatened their business operations. They required immediate temporary warehouse and business operations space on site in order to continue to operate and meet customers’ needs.

Parties and Props themes events and sources and stores hundreds of props – everything from tiki huts to six-foot chandeliers. On a Sunday afternoon, co-owner Amy Allison discovered that her 14,000-square-foot warehouse and business operations space were standing in four feet of water. Within hours the water receded, but her warehouse, inventory and office area were a disaster.

Solution

Traube responded immediately and provided Parties and Props with a 20-by-40-foot vinyl-sided temporary structure that could protect the contents of the business operation and provide a secure shelter in which to operate while crews restored the building.

Results

Traube’s temporary structure enabled Parties and Props to continue operations at their original location and maintain regular customer business. Because of Traube’s quick response, only one event was impacted, and the company was able to continue to generate revenues during an upcoming busy season, which was critical as the company recovered from the flooding.

According to Amy Allison, co-owner of Parties and Props: “I’ve worked with Traube for more than ten years to supply tents and temporary structures for corporate and special events. I never expected to need emergency, temporary storage and shelter for business continuity purposes. The Traube team was amazing. They knew exactly what sort of structure I needed and installed it quickly and professionally. With their help we were able to meet our customers’ needs.”

Money-Saving Temporary Structure Creates New Inspection Space, Improves Efficiency for Vehicle Manufacturer

Challenge

OEM Systems is recognized worldwide as a manufacturer and “upfitter” of delivery vehicles, ground support equipment and emergency rescue vehicles. Responsible for customizing entire fleets of trucks, OEM often requires additional warehouse space to conduct final inspections of vehicles coming off the assembly line. In 2006, OEM engaged Traube to create an all-weather, temporary building that was secure and accessible to the current assembly line.

Solution

Given the challenge to provide a new, yet cost-efficient temporary warehouse space in close proximity to the current assembly line, Traube’s site evaluation team examined OEM’s production space and recommended a semi-permanent structure. The resulting enclosure, used intermittently for several years, enabled OEM Systems to roll trucks directly from the assembly line into the large-capacity, temporary building for final inspection.

“It was important to OEM that we provide them the additional workspace they needed immediately,” said John Traube, president of Traube Tents and Structures. “Portable and scalable – the structure was essentially used or removed based on OEM’s current space and needs.”

Results

Traube’s semi-permanent solution helped OEM Systems save approximately 35 to 40 percent, when compared to storage sheds or permanent buildings that require a foundation. In addition, the new space enabled the team to use time and resources more efficiently, because OEM’s inspections are now performed in an all-weather, clean and secure shelter, and are no longer dependent on fair weather.

According to Marcy McElroy, production coordinator at OEM Systems: “OEM Systems uses only Traube.” McElroy said. “When we call the Traube team, explain our situation, the timeline and the issue, Traube responds every time with customized solutions. The team’s timely and professional setup and removal made my job easier. Another big seller is cost effectiveness – Traube is more reasonable than any other option on the market.”
